Got some DIY plans up my sleeve! I’ve been debating what to do with the space behind the grey couch. Originally I wanted it to be a dining room because I’ve always wanted one to be able to host parties or even just have a sit down family meal. But I also know that dining rooms tend to be stale, rarely used spaces and I really don’t want to render a huge chunk of our square footage into unused space. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ While we gained a little bit of square footage moving from our old house into this one, we actually lost a room, so we don’t have an office or anywhere to put our file cabinet stuff. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So! While I love the open concept and definitely don’t want to make it feel closed-in in here, I’m thinking of making a room divider with 2x2s that defines the two spaces, but still let’s light in, and I’m tryyyyying to scheme a way to meld an office and dining room somehow. Multipurpose space that doesn’t feel awkward for either purpose. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In the meantime here’s a little mock-up of what I’ve got in mind, and then you can swipe to see what it looks like currently.
I listened to a Supersoul Conversations podcast episode the other day featuring @cherylstrayed and the overarching theme of her talk was “Don’t let your dreams destroy your life.” Like, don’t let this pursuit of your dreams and the hustle make you so unhappy with your current life that you ruin any joy you could be experiencing in the present. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’ve been feeling this hard ever since listening to that episode. As someone with very clear visions about what I want not only in life but in my home design, it can be hard to look around at my very unfinished home and be angry and frustrated that it doesn’t line up yet with what I have envisioned in my mind. But being frustrated with it doesn’t change the fact that it’s going to take time to finish and there’s no point in being annoyed with it in its unfinished state. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There are approximately 500 other scenarios in which the episode’s message applies to me (maybe as an enneagram 3 it’s especially applicable 😅) but I’ve been feeling that specific one more heavily lately, not having anything pretty or interesting to post on here much the past few weeks.
#ad In the past five years or so, I’ve realized that one of my favorite things is creating beautiful experiences for people. A lot of times, this manifests in me putting on parties that are, like, a liiiittle bit extra, but since becoming an Airbnb host, it’s been something that I’ve been putting into how I set up my home for my guests. I like to have fresh flowers in the house for every guest, little snacks and quick and easy breakfast items available, and I spritz some fresh essential oil in each room before the new guest arrives. Having little things around that make a guest feel special or comfortable is something that I love, and if it’s easy and quick to do, even better. It’s been a hard few mental health days over here with potty training. I usually keep my sanity by getting out of the house and hitting up @homedepot or @goodwillintl when Jack starts getting stir crazy at home, but being home-bound while he gets the hang of using the big kid potty has been... rough on mama. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It hasn’t helped that our house is still in a state of mid-project (are we on week three of tile? I think I’ve wiped it from my mind 😅) so this afternoon during naptime I decided that self-care needed to look like me doing a big kitchen clean so that my surroundings didn’t feel quite so chaotic and messy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But also: here’s a first peek at the finished tile!! I still need to grout the second half of the kitchen out of frame and about half the bathroom still needs tile but I love it so much. Next on the project list will be installing the butcher block waterfall over by the sink, then the custom hood over the range, and open shelving!
Why is my Monstera right there? I don’t even know, it got put there and I forgot about it 😂 but you can get a little peek at the acrylic top we got for my thrifted coffee table!! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I started potty training Jack yesterday so I’ll probably be a little quiet around here in the coming days, and also my house kind of looks like a hurricane of toddler activities blew through so this is probably the one slice of home that isn’t affected 😂 #beermestrength

I renovate houses, thrift obsessively, am mom to a 2.5 year old kiddo named Jack and wife to Dan going on 8 years, live in the PNW, and have been blogging since 2008. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here are 5 random facts about me (share yours in the comments!) 1️⃣ I’m an enneagram 3w4 (though I often also find myself drawn to some of the 1 characteristics). 2️⃣ I have had teal and pink hair, black hair, ginger-red hair, dark brown to blonde ombré, dark green hair, and currently yellow/chartreuse hair 💛 3️⃣ I grew up in Anchorage, Alaska and used to fly with my dad out to Iditarod checkpoints and sell espresso to mushers and spectators. 4️⃣ I have a 1972 Winnebago Brave which I’ve lived/traveled in long-term on and off since 2010 but I hope to do another trip one day with our son! 5️⃣ Favorite reality TV: So You Think You Can Dance (been loving the reboot of American Idol lately too!).
